Green Lantern/Green Arrow Vol. 1
DC Comics; First Edition (June 1, 2004)The first few stories are from 1970-1972 which is what first sparked my interest. Although I am a fan of Green Arrow, I never liked Green Lantern. Nothing about the men who are chosen to be Green Lantern appeal to me. Even the famous and well known Hal Jordan. I've always had an issue with story arcs that involve a strong space presence. Sure Superman is an alien from space but he never leaves Earth in his stories. Well, I shouldn't say never but it is very rare. So going back on what did appeal to me. I wanted to read some comics from years before I was born which would be before 79'. I was chatting with a colleague at work and he said he was a fan of Green Lantern and that I should check out Green Lantern/Green Arrow volumes 1 and 2. Since I am a fan of Green Arrow I thought Id check it out. He said they were very good and he was right. They are very good. When it comes to graphic novels and comics I take recommendations because there are just way too many to read. Social and cultural issues are the main basis of the stories in volume 1. A collection of 7 to be exact. I thought this was a great idea and the way the stories are written I found to be relevant today and they were written 40 years ago. They are well written with a lot of thought and feel genuine rather than senseless jargon just to meet deadlines. I wasn't really diggin the artwork but it was descent because there was a lot of landscape and panels that aren't too common. And it was cool to see GL and GA in regular attire such as jeans and sweaters. Do check out Green Lantern/Green Arrow Vol. 1. There are some nice stories in there. But dont expect action packed. Its not about that in this volume. This is more about everyday life of people and traveling the country. More realistic subjects coupled with the fantasy of comic book superheroes.
