Flash: The Return Of Barry Allen

Flash: The Return Of Barry Allen

Believed to be deceased, Barry Allen has re-entered the lives of his friends and family and present day Flash Wally West gets the feeling that something just ain't right.
Thank god Allen is not a zombie. I would have given this book away to my little cousins if he was.
So back in 1985 there was a little series titled Crisis On Infinite Earths published by DC Comics. In this series Barry Allen whom is the second Flash had died sacrificing himself in "Crisis On Infinite Earths". His nephew, Wally West became The Flash but has always struggled under the shadow of his uncle whom he idolizes. Together the two Flash's kick some bad guy butt, speed force around town, and some other great uses of the power that is The Flash. Except something strange starts to happen. Allen becomes jealous of Wally and starts to turn evil. A hero gone rogue? No way! Wally begins to dig for answers. I love the Reverse Flash and he is in this a lot. Even Max Mercury and Professor Zoom have major roles in the plot. I am a big fan of The Flash. He just might be my favorite of the Justice Leaguers and DC universe. Although his strength and powers are limited on rating scales, his gift is truly unlimited. Lets quickly go over the Speed Force, which is where The Flash gets his power. For starters the speed force is a dimension only a handful of heroes have visited and the force allows them to travel through time. Durable bones that can't break is useful when fighting monsters with superhuman strength. Capable of kicking the living....out of you with lightning quick punches with the force equivalent to an exploding star. Yes, a supernova. The Flash also uses speed force to accelerate the healing of wounds without passing time so that he wont age. He can accelerate the healing factor of team member, of anyone he chooses to actually. Extreme intellect by recalling everything they speed read. Although The Flash is portrayed as a joker and comic relief to other members of the Justice League, he remembers everything he sees and reads. A gift I wish I had. Its like taking that Limitless pill from the movie times 100. The speed force, when concentrated, allows The Flash to not only control such solid matter but he can also control elements such as water and air. Use your imagination and you'll come up with several ways to do this. One example Id like to share from this book is The Flash's use their arms to generate whirlwinds directed at stopping a derailed train. Its a pretty intense scene. However, The Flash is human and his devotion to justice often times gets his ass handed to him by foes. But yeah, he usually triumphs.
The time was the early 90's and the art work is fantastic. I was diggin' the fight sequences and chase scenes, Keystone and Central City. I highly recommend this for any Flash fan, or if you simply like reading good stories. Drama, emotion, jokes, fights, a great plot, a twist and a good ending all make this one of the best comics I have ever read. Definitely check it out when you have some time.
